On its way to the store shelf
Robbins said LG is on schedule with the launch of its next-generation HiFi digital audio player. The company previously said the product was due to hit the U.S. market in the first quarter of 2015.
The LG XMB 810 offers the same media playback and playback/power features that are included with the LG XMB 900 and 960 models. The product features USB 2.0 compatibility and its connectivity suite includes Bluetooth 4.0 and A2DP functionality, HSP/HSP2 Bluetooth with Advanced Audio Distribution Profile 2.1/HSP2 Audio Stream. It also sports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.
For its multimedia features, the LG XMB 810 offers an FM tuner and three audio formats that include MP3, AAC, AAC+, AMR, AAC+/EAC, MP3, WMA, WMA-PS, FLAC, FLAC-MIDI, WMA, MP3, AAC, AMR, AAC+/EAC+, AMR-NB, WMA-PS (Desktop PC only), FLAC-SLIP, MPEG-4, PCM, MP3-EAC, MPEG-4, AAC+, AMR-NB, MPEG-4 Audio Stream and AAC+/EAC+ Audio Stream.
The product also includes a 2GB memory card slot and, in the portable mode, an FM tuner with 1.5-inch capacitor and an optical input for audio and other accessories.
On a different note, LG on Tuesday also announced the LG X300 for the China market.
The device supports dual-SIM slots and users can use their existing smartphone to connect to it, either as a second SIM or a removable SIM. With the device, users can browse the web and send and receive e-mails, as well as make video calls using their smartphone. The device runs the Android Lollipop operating system and supports Bluetooth 4.0. It features a 3.5-inch display.

Besides LG, other companies that offer phones that combine high-quality audio playback with video capabilities are Samsung, Sony, Google, and Huawei. LG may also have a competitor soon. Lenovo recently unveiled its smart speaker, the Lenovo Smartphone Sound Bar that comes with a microphone that doubles as a speaker. The speaker also features a 3.5-inch subwoofer, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and support for numerous digital music services.
In related news, LG has also announced a "Multimedia System" portable multimedia player, the LG X300. The media player has a 2GB memory card slot and users can either use it as a portable media player or connect it to a larger LCD panel and display.
The device has a 13.2-inch display with a resolution of 1024x480 pixels, 2GB of memory, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a 2-megapixel camera. The media player will be available for pre-order in South Korea in late March and will be available in other parts of the world later.
LG has also provided a teaser of a "multimedia system" portable media player.
